SHC seeks details of candidates being considered for educational boards’ chairmen

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed a provincial law officer to submit details of the candidates who have applied for the post of chairman in various educational boards in the province.

The direction came on a petition of Altaf Ahmed Memon who had challenged the selection criteria for the appointments of chairmen of educational boards in Sindh.

The petitioner submitted that the search committee had violated the law in the selection process for the appointment of educational boards chairmen as the appointments were being made on the basis of favouritism instead of merit.

He submitted that the candidates whose names were placed before the chief minister were not qualified for the post, and requested the high court to stop the selection process till the decision of the petition. The SHC directed the provincial law officer to submit details of the candidates who were being considered on the next hearing.

The SHC has directed the Malir deputy commissioner to appear in person and explain commercial activities near the Malir River despite a court restraining order.

The petitioner, Anwar Shah, had submitted that the high court had earlier restrained commercial activities near the Malir River but despite the court order, the Sunday Bazar was being set up in the Qayumabad area near the Malir River. He requested the high court to take action against officials involved in violation of the court orders.
