Lawyers rejoice as Farrukh Lanjar removed as Hyderabad SSP
HYDERABAD: Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon issued a notification on Friday, which said Dr Farrukh Ali Lanjar, an officer of the PSP (BS-19) and Hyderabad district SSP, had been transferred and posted personal staff officer to the Sindh home minister.
Adeel Ahmed Chandio, an officer of the PSP (BS-19) and personal staff officer to the home minister, has transferred and posted as senior superintendent of police of District Hyderabad. After the notification of transfer circulated in media, Hyderabad High Court Bar President Ayaz Tanio and District Bar President Ashar Khokhar, while addressing a joint media briefing, alleged that Farrukh Ali had tried to pit two institutions against each other, and that was why our principled position was that he should be transferred.
After the press conference, the lawyers danced to the beat of drums and distributed sweets. On Wednesday, the All Sindh Lawyers’ Convention had unanimously ended the ongoing boycott of courts proceedings, but it had set a 48-hour deadline to transfer SSP Farrukh Lanjar.
A month ago, tensions between the police and lawyers started after the registration of a case against a fellow lawyer. Lawyers surrounded the office of the SSP and staged a dharna on the Hyderabad-Karachi national highway from February 6 to 8.
The three-day sit-in at the Wadhu Wah bypass ended after the SSP left charge on an eight-day leave. When he resumed charge, the lawyers got angry and resorted to a boycott of courts in Hyderabad for 12 days.
