HYDERABAD: During a solar panels distribution ceremony at the Rawal House in Tandojam on Saturday, senior Sindh minister Sharjeel Inam Memon congratulated Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah for implementing Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision of providing solar energy solutions to the underprivileged.

“This facility is for poor people who can’t afford electricity,” said Memon. “The programme has started in Sukkur, and will be expanded to every district of Hyderabad Division. A total of 200,000 families will benefit from this initiative.”

He emphasised that this project is part of Bilawal’s larger welfare agenda, which also includes a massive housing project. He highlighted that 2.1 million houses for rain-affected families are under construction, with 400,000 already completed. “These homes are being provided in the name of poor women, ensuring women’s empowerment.”

He also reaffirmed the growing public support for the PPP, noting that the party continues to gain more seats in every election. “The trust and confidence of the people will continue until Bilawal Bhutto Zardari becomes the next prime minister of Pakistan.”

Regarding political opposition, Memon said alliances against the PPP are not new, but the party continues to expand and strengthen. He reiterated the PPP’s stance on provincial autonomy and its strong opposition to the Kala Bagh Dam project, terming it a settled matter.

“The PPP serves the common man, which is why people trust us,” he said, recalling Benazir Bhutto’s contributions to women’s empowerment and defence technology, President Asif Ali Zardari’s role in the passage of the 18th amendment, and Bilawal’s strong advocacy for Kashmir on global platforms.

Memon made it clear that the PPP would not allow the construction of any canal on the Indus River, stressing that its leadership has categorically stated that as long as the PPP exists, no canal would be built.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah pointed out that the Sindh Solar Energy Project is a provincial government initiative worth Rs200 billion, and is backed by the World Bank. “In the first phase, 162,600 families will receive solar systems, while another 500,000 families will be facilitated in the next phase.”

He said the Sindh government is also working on establishing solar parks to expand renewable energy infrastructure. He emphasised that the distribution process follows the Benazir Income Support Programme criteria, ensuring complete transparency and merit-based selection.

As part of the first phase, 100 families in Tando Jam received solar systems at the ceremony. The Sindh Energy Department had organised the ceremony for the distribution of solar home systems under the Sindh Solar Energy Project.
