ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday granted time to the Punjab government for submitting the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report on May-9 incidents and adjourned the matter for date-in-office (an indefinite period of time).
A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, and comprising Justice Muhammad Shafi and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, heard the appeals of the Punjab government against the relief granted by the lower courts to the PTI workers, allegedly involved in May-9 incidents.
Additional Prosecutor General Punjab appeared before the court and submitted that they want to submit the JIT reports regarding the incidents. He told the court that in the light of those reports, they would present their arguments, and till then they should be granted some time to present the reports.
CJP Yahya Afridi observed that some appeals were to be transferred, but now they had become infructuous.
The additional prosecutor general replied that the Special Anti-Terrorism Court Rawalpindi judge had been transferred, adding that in 11 requests of the transfer, surety bonds of Rs2 lakh had also been deposited.
