KHAR: The police claimed to have arrested the alleged rapist and killer of a five-year old girl in Maina area of Wara Mamond tehsil in Bajaur tribal district on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference, DPO Waqar Rafiq said that the police had succeeded in arresting the suspected rapist and murderer within 12 hours as the brutal murder of the girl child in Maina area of Wara Mamond tehsil had sparked widespread grief and outrage among the public. Upon receiving information about the incident, he said special investigation teams were formed immediately that led to arrest based on local intelligence. The DPO said a key suspect identified as Bilal was taken into custody and then thoroughly interrogated, during which he confessed to have committed the crime. He said the 16-year old suspect, who belonged to the same area and is a close relative of the victim, lured Maria Bibi with samosas before sexually assaulting and later killing her. The police also found objectionable videos in the suspect’s mobile phone. According to the investigation, the accused suffocated the child by covering her mouth with a cloth and later hit her with stones.
The suspect confessed to have committed the murder out of fear. “The police successfully apprehended the accused within 12 hours of the incident, and forensic analysis of the evidence is underway,” the DPO said, adding that the local residents played a crucial role in assisting police in the arrest.
