ISLAMABAD: Civil Judge Shahzad Khan on Thursday acquitted Saleh Muhammad Swati and his two gunmen in an attempted murder case related to Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha.

Swati and his gunmen Tassaduq Ali Shah and Shahzeb Amin did not appear in the court. Their lawyer filed applications for their exemption from attendance.

The court granted the applications, delivered a reserved verdict and accepted the applications for acquittal of the three accused.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is also accused in the case. He is on interim bail until February 27. The application for his acquittal was not filed due to the non-receipt of Challan.

In another case, Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Tahir Abbas Supra remanded Umme Hassan and other accused in a case of an attack on a government vehicle and staff and alleged firing on them, for four days.

Six women and seven men including Umme Hassan had been arrested in the case registered at the Shahzad Town Police Station.

They were presented before the court on Wednesday and a request was made for their physical remand.

The defence lawyer opposed the physical remand and said that Hassan and others were arrested from a mosque. What do they want to recover from them? What do the police want to recover from the women?

They were arrested from the Madani Mosque in Margalla Town.

Umme Hassan said there was a dispute over the mosque plot and she went to negotiate with the administration and was arrested.
