Mustafa Amir’s mother claims girl orchestrated his murder

The case of Mustafa Amir's murder has taken a twist as the slain youth’s mother has accused a girl of orchestrating his murder.

Police high-ups on Friday claimed to have solved the case announcing that Amir was murdered by his friend Armughan. After the murder, Armughan and his friend Sheraz Bukhari took Amir’s car and carried the body to Hub where they set the car and the body inside it ablaze

However, new developments emerged in the case on Saturday such as initial reports finding that the DNA of blood traces found on a carpet in Armughan's house have matched the DNA of Amir’s mother. However, the final forensic report is expected in a few days.

Another major development is Amir’ mother filing a request in the court for the exhumation of her son’s body. Additionally, she has made a serious allegation against a girl claiming that she was behind her son’s murder.

The slain youth’s mother alleged that the girl had been sent to the United States and she had influenced Armughan to commit the crime.

The case’s investigation officer (IO), Muhammad Ali, confirmed to The News that initial forensic results indicated that the blood traces found at Armughan’s house matched Amir’s mother’s DNA. To further confirm the charred body’s identity, it would be exhumed, and DNA samples collected to match with the mother’s DNA, he added. The IO explained that Amir’s mother had submitted a request for the exhumation, and now the authorities would submit a formal request on Monday to proceed with the process. This would not only help confirm the body’s identity but also allow Amir’s parents to move his body from Edhi’s unclaimed graveyard to another cemetery for a proper burial.

Regarding the investigation, the officer stated that on Monday, they would take Bukhari to the location where he and Armughan had allegedly set the car and body on fire, to verify his statement.

It is noteworthy that the judicial magistrate has the authority to decide on the exhumation request. The administrative court has directed Amir’s mother to approach the relevant magistrate for approval.

The IO also revealed that since the trial court had twice rejected Armughan’s remand, the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) police had now filed a petition with the Sindh High Court to obtain his remand. This would allow police to interrogate Armughan, as currently only Bukhari’s statement was on record. "We need Armughan’s remand to cross-check Sheraz’s recorded statement and verify all aspects of the case," the officer stated.

In response to a question, the IO mentioned that according to Bukhari’s statement, the conflict between Armughan and Amir was over a girl. Initial findings suggest the dispute between them started on New Year’s night.

Meanwhile, Amir’s mother claimed that the girl involved in her Amir’s murder was Marsha Shahid who had been in a relationship with her son for four years. According to Amir’s mother, Marsha became addicted to drugs, which led to frequent disputes between them.

She alleged that Marsha had connections with Armughan and other boys. When Amir confronted Marsha over her behaviour, she allegedly argued with him.

Amir’s mother claimed that Marsha had instructed Armughan to have Mustafa killed. The girl reportedly moved to the United States for studies in August 2024 and on December 22, she returned to Pakistan, and her disputes with Amir intensified.

Amir’s mother alleged that Armughan lured her son to his house, killed him and later informed Marsha about it. Despite informing the police about Marsha’s involvement, no action was taken against her, the mother said, adding that when the girl was summoned for investigation, she was sent back to the US.

Amir, a BBA student, had gone to Armughan’s house on January 6, where he was murdered. However, the case only came to light after a month had passed since his disappearance. On February 8, the AVCC police raided Armughan’s house in the Gizri area, where Armaghan opened fire on the police. As a result, DSP Ahsan Zulfiqar and a constable were injured.

After a four-hour-long encounter, the police finally succeeded in arresting the suspect. Subsequently, with the help of the Citizens-Police

Liaison Committee and intelligence agencies, police arrested another suspect, Bukhari, who was a close friend of Armughan. Bukhari told police that Armughan had murdered Mustafa.

DIG South Syed Asad Raza suspended three officers – Darakhshan Police Station Agha Abdul Rashid Pathan, SIO Zulfiqar and ASI, Iftikhar Ali – and ordered departmental action against them.

According to the DIG, the officers were suspended due to negligence and delays in handling the case.

Further revelations have emerged in the Mustafa murder case. According to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) police, the day after Amir was burned along with his car, Armughan flew to Islamabad and then travelled to Skardu. Later, another suspect, Sheraz, first travelled from Karachi to Lahore, then to Islamabad, and finally reached Skardu.

Police reports indicate that both suspects stayed in Skardu, closely following news from Karachi to see if there was any suspicion against them. On January 28, Sheraz returned to Karachi and instructed Armughan to come back as well. Subsequently, on February 5, Armughan also returned.

On Saturday, an anti-terrorism court remanded suspect Sheraz in police custody until February 21 in the Mustafa murder case. Police presented Sheraz in the court with his face covered. The hearing took place in the anti-terrorism administrative court, where the investigation officer requested the suspect’s physical remand, stating that further interrogation was required.

The court granted the request and handed Sheraz over to the Gizri police until February 21, also directing the investigation officer to submit a progress report at the next hearing.

As Sheraz exited the judge’s chamber, a commotion erupted when the father of the main suspect, Armughan, began shouting. Kamran Qureshi, Armughan’s father, attempted to forcibly enter the judge’s chamber, demanding to meet the judge, claiming his son’s case was being heard.
