Police reform
Last week’s strike by advocates against the Hyderabad SSP after he allegedly registered an unjust FIR against an advocate, laid bare the alarming state of our law enforcement. The legal fraternity, the very backbone of justice, protested against police misconduct across the province of Sindh, blocking the main roads. While the protests ended after the advocates were reportedly assured of the removal of the transfer of the Hyderabad SSP, the whole incident exposes the rot in our system. The law and order situation in Sindh, particularly in Shikarpur, Ghotki, Sukkur and Kashmore districts, is spiralling out of control. These regions have become hotbeds of crime, where kidnappings, robberies, and lawlessness reign supreme.
The police, instead of curbing these threats, appear either unwilling or incapable of restoring order. The citizens of Sindh live in a constant state of fear, abandoned by those sworn to protect them. The time for empty promises and ineffective measures is over. The government must take immediate and resolute action to reform the Sindh police. The advocate’s strike signals a law enforcement crisis that cannot be ignored. If the authorities continue to turn a blind eye, the consequences will be catastrophic for justice, security, and economic stability.
