PHC bails out accused in honour killing case
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday ordered the release of an accused on bail who had been charged with the murder of his wife in the name of honour.
Justice Sahibzada Asadullah was on the bench while Ameen Khattak Lachi Advocate represented the accusedDuring the hearing, the lawyer for the accused, Abdul Rasheed, informed the court that his client was accused of killing his wife, Hira Begum, on November 25, 2024, in the jurisdiction of Shakardara Police Station, Kohat.
According to the allegations, the accused, along with his brother, allegedly killed his wife by shooting her over suspicions of an extramarital affair. However, the complainant had only implicated the accused in the conspiracy, while the main suspect-his brother-remained absconding. The defense lawyer argued that his client could not be kept behind bars solely on conspiracy charges.
He said that police investigations revealed that his client was not directly involved in the crime and had registered a case against the absconding suspect. The defense claimed that the accused was falsely implicated in the case.
