‘KP set to revolutionise power sector with new transmission projects’
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transmission and Grid System Company (KPT&GSC) is set to make history by utilising cheap electricity generated from completed hydropower projects to enhance the province’s electricity transmission system, a meeting was told on

The 12th Board of Directors meeting of KPT&GSC, which was presided over by Secretary Energy and Power KP Muhammad Zubair Khan, was told that the initiative aims to improve energy efficiency and supply cost-effective power to local industries, boosting industrial growth in the region.
During the meeting, an official communique said, updates were shared on the ongoing 132/220 kV transmission line from Matiltan to Madyen, a project expected to be completed in 1.5 years at a cost of Rs 8 billion. This transmission line will facilitate the supply of electricity generated from the 84 MW Matiltan Hydropower Project and other provincial projects in Swat to the national grid or local industries at subsidized rates.
The completion of the first phase of the project is expected to generate an annual income of Rs 7 billion for the provincial government. In a significant step, an agreement has already been signed between PEDO (Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization) and a private company for energy utilization, ensuring economic benefits and industrial growth in the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Energy KP Muhammad Zubair Khan urged the officials to expedite the feasibility study and consultant appointment process to ensure the timely completion of these crucial projects.
He said that the KPT&GSC must be strengthened with the inclusion of technical experts, transforming it into a profitable enterprise for the province in the coming years.Several key decisions were also approved during the meeting to improve the company’s operations and accelerate energy sector reforms.
