ISLAMAbAD: The investigation into the killing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) senior leader took an interesting turn after the main accused claimed that Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) top leader and some key leaders of the MQM “know true story of Imran Farooq’s murder case.” 

The murder of MQM's ex-convener in Britain has become one of London’s unsolved mysterious murders, putting question marks over an apparent slow progress into investigation of this case both in the United Kingdom as well as in Pakistan. 

“We’ve expanded scope of investigation into Imran Farooq [murder] case. Decision is based on the information we received from the Scotland Yard Team (SYT) as well as from the main accused,” senior officials of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Ministry of Interior, dealing with this case, revealed on Monday. 

In off the record meetings with Geo News (ASKKS Programme), senior officials who have also been engaged with the SYT said: “Two of three killers, Mohsin Ali in particular, accused Mustafa Kamal of knowing everything about murder plot which was apparently planned in Karachi and executed in London.”

Sharing some key points of ongoing investigation with Geo News, officials said that fresh recorded statements of Mohsin Ali and Khalid Shamim suggested that MQM chief Altaf Hussain and PSP chief Mustafa Kamal had been communicating with each other soon after Imran Farooq’s murder executed in London in 2010. “Before and after killing Imran Farooq, MQM chief Altaf Hussain was in contact with Mustafa Kamal as saying boys have done good job,” said one of senior officials of FIA who shared these findings.

But Mustafa Kamal did not comment on this issue when Geo News/The News approached via phone. “Mustafa bhai did not want to talk on this important issue like Imran Farooq’s murder case,” said one of PSP chief’s coordinators.   

Mohsin Ali also requested the FIA to question MQM senior leaders Farooq Sattar, Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad Khan and other senior leaders accordingly about this case, said an FIA official who also met five-members Scotland Yard Team at FIA Headquarters, Islamabad, last month.

“Visiting team, for the first time, shared useful evidence with FIA about two MQM leaders and a former leader which led us to expand investigation scope into this murder case,” he said on condition of anonymity. The SYT which spent one week in Pakistan last month also expressed its desire to meet MQM senior leaders in Karachi about the case, revealed the official, adding that the team exchanged its findings about the case with FIA officials. 

London police also requested Pakistan to handover Mohsin Ali, the main accused in this case, to the SYT which wanted his assistance to probe this case in the UK, he further revealed. “Now government of Pakistan will decide either to handover the accused or not,” he added.
