Young and jobless

Young and jobless

Youth unemployment is a serious problem in Pakistan, threatening the country's future. With a growing population and few job opportunities, the gap between education and employment has widened. Privatising public institutions and selling national organisations have made things worse, leading to many job losses, especially for middle and lower-income families. The education sector has also suffered. Privatising schools has created unequal access to quality education, marginalising children of unemployed parents. Graduates entering the job market are often unprepared due to outdated curriculums and a lack of vocational training.

The effects of unemployment are severe, including increased poverty and mental health issues among the youth. A generation that should be driving national growth is stuck, leading to frustration and disillusionment. To address this crisis, the government must focus on creating jobs through investments in industrialisation and technology. Public-private partnerships can encourage entrepreneurship, and education reforms can align skills with market needs. Tackling unemployment is crucial not just economically but also for restoring hope and stability in Pakistan’s society. This issue needs urgent attention to ensure that Pakistan does not lose the potential of its youth.
