Students urged to take part in literary activities
PESHAWAR: Speakers at the concluding ceremony of the weeklong literary programme on Sunday urged the students to take active part in co-curricular activities to improve your interpersonal skills, leadership qualities and display your untapped talent.
Organised by the Peshawarians Literary Society (PLS), the closing ceremony of the annual literary week was held at a local college in which students, faculty members and senior alumni turned up and shared their views.
PLS chief organizer Prof Farmanullah arranged the event while Prof Iftikhar Ahmad Khan was the chief guest.
Hasamuddin Khan, a student from Quetta, Balochistan, won an English declamation contest and stole the event and received great applause from the audience.
On this occasion, Prof Iftikhar said that active participation helped students to bring out their hidden talent, raised their level of confidence and sharpen their creative strength.
“Co-curricular activities on campus motivate a spirit of socializing, confidence building and teamwork. Such events provide a platform to young students to hone their better interpersonal skills, leadership qualities and display of untapped talent,” he added.
Prof Shamsuddin Khan, chief house tutor in his annual report highlighted salient features of the weeklong event and stressed the students to take interest in such co-curricular activities as it would help them improve their communication skills alongside critical thinking and sense of socialising.
Urdu and English declamation contests, national songs, qirat, naat and painting competitions and book fair were the main features of the annual literary week.
In the inter-house competitions, Taimur House lifted the champion trophy for its best performance.
Later, the chief guest distributed awards and certificates to excelling students.
