Sit-in staged against building six canals on Indus River
JSQM leaders reject Cholistan canal project and say it was tantamount to destroying whole irrigation system
SUKKUR: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM, Bashir Khan Group) on Tuesday staged a sit-in on the National Highway near Baberloi bypass in Khairpur against the decision to build 6 canals over the Indus River.
Reports said that the JSQM launched a march from Wapda Colony to the Baberloi bypass. On that occasion, the leaders said the Indus River is the property of the Sindhi people and the plan to build canals on it is equal to the economic massacre of the Sindhi people.
They rejected the Cholistan canal project and said it was tantamount to destroying the whole irrigation system. They accused the PPP off equally responsible of the construction of the canals and said that the government of Sindh and the PPP should oppose this project and adopt a clear stand. They said that canal projects aim to irrigate the lands of the Cholistan of Punjab and to barren lands of the Sindh and they pledged to continue their demonstration till the withdrawal of the project of constructing canals. They announced sit-in on 22nd November at National Highway Kandyaro.
