Govt to outsource some services at airports, Senate told

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs on Monday informed the Senate that the government was planning to outsource some services at the airports.
“I categorically informed that the government has plan to outsource services at airports while other departments including Anti Narcotic Force (ANF), immigration and Airport Security Force (ASF) would continue their work as these were doing at present,” he said.
The minister was winding up discussion on a motion moved by Saeed Ghani to discuss new aviation policy of the government with particular reference to the proposal of outsourcing major airports in the country.
He said if aviation policy is approved the services at Allama Iqbal Lahore would be outsourced first and later it would be extended to other airports as well.He said aviation policy was approved in 2007 while to bring further improvement in the policy, a committee was constituted in 2014 to form a draft policy.
With regard to a point that huge amount has been spent on renovation of Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Federal Capital, the Minister said this airport is a national asset and amount was spent for improvement of its services.
Sheikh Aftab regretted that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is not in good shape due to mismanagement. However, he said, the government has taken many measures to make PIA a profitable institution.The Minister said Board of Directors of PIA was taking all important decisions.
