Gujrat solid waste management system to be handed over to GWMC
LALAMUSA: Gujrat Deputy Commissioner Safdar Hussain has said that the district’s solid waste management system will be handed over to the Gujranwala Waste Management Company (GWMC).
The decision aims to streamline and improve waste collection and sanitation in the district, with the system set to be outsourced for greater efficiency. In a meeting held to discuss the district’s solid waste management, the deputy commissioner shared that the agreement between the Municipal Committee Gujrat and the GWMC had been finalised.
As part of this new initiative, both current employees and newly recruited workers would be part of the revamped system, ensuring the smooth continuation and improvement of services. Deputy Commissioner Safdar Hussain emphasised that the development was a key part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to overhaul sanitation and solid waste management system across the province. “Our goal is to provide the citizens of Gujrat with the best possible municipal services, and a more efficient waste management system is a crucial step in that direction,” he remarked.
Under the agreement, the GWMC would take charge of the recruitment and monitoring of sanitary workers, tailoring the workforce to meet the district’s growing demands.
The deputy commissioner directed all companies concerned to expedite recruitment process and other necessary arrangements, ensuring that the upgraded system could be operational in the field without any delay.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Khizar Hayat Bhatti, Assistant Commissioner Kharian Zohaib Mumtaz, Assistant Commissioner Sarai Alamgir Farooq Azam, CO Municipal Corporation Gujrat Khaliq Dadgada and other officers were also present on the occasion.
