NOWSHERA: A councillor belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led district government here on Saturday warned that he will join the opposition if the councillors’ salaries were not raised.
Qaiser Khan, the District Council member from Mohib Banda area in Nowshera, told the council meeting convened by Convener Ashfaq Ahmad Khan that they were promised Rs15,000 as monthly salary.
“But now we are being paid Rs1,000 only. It’s nothing but a joke with us,” he lamented.
The councillor said he was convener of the District Council’s works committee but he was not called to any of its meetings.
He maintained that the District Council had not formed the accounts committee so far. He later walked out of the meeting in protest.
When contacted, District Nazim Liaquat Khan Khattak said the accounts committee would be formed soon.
