Imran decides to restructure, reorganise PTI
PTI founder has assigned responsibility of practical politics to Salman Akram Raja, who will now perform duties as PTI secretary general
ISLAMABAD: Hours before the Sangjani rally, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan has taken key decisions regarding the party restructuring and reorganisation.
It was learnt that in order to facilitate the party and end internal differences, he separated the parliamentary and practical political affairs of the party. Under the new arrangement, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Omar Ayub and Opposition Leader in Senate Shibli Faraz would lead the parliamentary team in the National Assembly and the Senate, respectively.
The PTI founder, according to a senior party leader, has assigned the responsibility of practical politics to Salman Akram Raja, who will now perform duties as the PTI secretary general.
Apart from this, a think-tank will be formed under the leadership of Raoof Hasan, who is assigned the task of thrashing out a white paper on the government performance and electoral issues. It is expected the PTI would have a new spokesman as well. Sheikh Waqas Akram is speculated to be the most favourite candidate for the central spokesperson of the party. Notifications in this regard may be issued any time, but it was most likely following the PTI public meeting on Sunday, Sept 8. “Imran Khan has also decided to reorganise provincial and regional chapters, most probably in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa,” he pointed out. Earlier, the PTI founder accepted the resignation of Omar Ayub as the PTI general secretary and lauded his services for the party in difficult times. Ayub cited responsibilities of the opposition leader and court appearances in cases, among other reasons in the resignation. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali, meanwhile, said the resignation of the PTI secretary general was an internal matter of the party.
