KU syndicate approves Sindh HEC’s request for land
The University of Karachi (KU) syndicate has granted the request of the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC) for the construction of the SHEC office on the varsity’s land.
The SHEC’s request was approved by the KU syndicate on Saturday as KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi chaired the syndicate meeting at the VC Conference Hall.
Officials said the members of the syndicate in principle approved the request of the provincial higher education commission to allow it to construct its building on the KU’s land.
To proceed with the matter, a committee was formed headed by Engineer Memon Abdul Jabbar and comprising Prof Dr Solaha Rahman, Sahibzada Moazzam Qureshi and a nominee of the provincial government. They would submit their recommendations on the SHEC’s request.
It was mentioned during the meeting that the proposed building would not be used for commercial purposes and that the allocated land would always belong to the University of Karachi and as and when the SHEC left the building, it would be managed and governed by the KU administration.
The SHEC through a letter had requested the allocation of two acres of land for the construction of the SHEC building.
The KU syndicate also decided to remove two faculty members from the department of physics in the light of inquiry reports submitted separately by the inquiry officers.
The syndicate members also approved recommendations of the KU UFM Committee which had proposed the cancellation of the degrees and enrollment cards of candidates who were found involved in unethical acts.
The syndicate also agreed in principle to constitute a Dr Jamil Jalibi Chair, according to the rules and regulations already defined by the KU syndicate. Dr Jalibi had served as the eighth vice chancellor of the KU.
The members also approved in principle a document submitted to enhance/increase the revenue for the campus. The KU VC shared that he would send this document to the Finance and Planning Committee for discussion and preparation of working papers for the implementation of the proposals in the document.
The syndicate also approved the names of new chairpersons of various departments as well as minutes, proceedings, actions taken and implementations of the resolutions of the previous syndicate meeting.
