Man swept away by floodwater in Manshera

MANSEHRA: The district administration on Monday issued an evacuation warning to residents living at riversides as a man was swept away by floodwater in the Shergar area of Oghi.

The first spell of monsoon rains in the upper parts of Hazara division swelled Kunhar, Indus and Siran Rivers and local streams to a dangerous level.The Mansehra’s district administration warned residents living at riversides to shift to safer places as all water reservoirs passing through its jurisdiction were swelled to a high level with the start of a monsoon spell in most parts of the division.

It also warned tourists in Kaghan and Siren Valleys to keep away from waters in rivers and streams.A man was washed away in the local stream following its flooding during rains in the Qaziabad Shergar area of the Mansehra district.

Abdullah Syed an official of Rescue 1122 in Oghi said that their divers with the help of locals fished out his after making hectic efforts and shifted it to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Oghi.

Rescue 1122 official told reporters that the body was placed in the mortuary of the health facility. Locals rescued a nomad family, including women and children, amid flooding in the Bothekatha stream in the upper Channia area.

The family had erected their tent at a safer place far from the stream but it swelled to an alarming position because of rains and all of them were trapped amid flooding water.Meanwhile, traffic at Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road remained blocked for over an hour after the artery was flooded by the water of the local stream in the Sandysar area of the district.

The tourists and travellers remained stuck on both sides of the road until water pressure eased to a level where vehicles couldn’t cross it without putting the lives of people on board in danger.
