Event arranged to mark World Refugee Day
PESHAWAR: The Afghan students enrolled in Pakistani educational institutions narrated success stories at an event arranged on Thursday in connection with World Refugee Day which is marked on June 20.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) had arranged the event in collaboration with the Commissionerate Afghan Refugees (CAR). It highlighted social cohesion between Afghan and Pakistani communities. The event featured an exhibition showcasing a range of colours of Afghan culture including art and craft, music and literature, jewelry and embroidery work, and a ceremony to acknowledge the determination, endeavors, and achievements of talented Afghan youth.
Addressing the Afghan refugees and government officials, the head of UNHCR Sub-Office Peshawar, Kofi Dwomo, said: “We are here to tell you [Afghan refugees] that you are not alone. The world stands with you, recognizing your immense courage and resilience. The Pakistani communities have opened their homes and hearts to you, and we continue to work together to support and uplift you.”The exhibition attracted government officials, UN agencies, and partner organizations.
