Govt urged to establish Judicial
Council constitutionally permanently
From Our Correspondent
MULTAN: The Multan District Bar Association Saturday urged the government to establish a Judicial Council constitutionally on permanent basis instead of involving the Supreme Court.
Talking to The News, Multan DBA president Azimul Haq Pirzada said the SC should avoid heading a Judicial Commission because politicians would point fingers at judiciary if any verdict was announced against their wishes. Pirzada said for his proposed Judicial Council, the government should take representatives from Pakistan Bar Council, Provincial Bar Council, bar associations and civil society to investigate corruption on permanent basis.
He said this constitutional body should be responsible for investigating corruption issues. Pirzada said the PTI would spread controversy against superior judiciary if Judicial Commission announces a decision against the party wishes. To a query on Terms of Reference on Judicial Commission, he said the DBA has constituted a special committee to discuss the ToRs, saying that the opposition’s TORs are needed to be amended.
PRIZE BOND DRAW: The Directorate of National Savings has announced of holding the 66th draw of Rs 1,500 prize bonds at Multan State Bank building on Monday. Talking to reporters, National Savings Regional Director Muhammad Jehangir Shahid said Rs 1500 denomination prize bonds purchased until March 14 last would be included in the draw. He said the Multan DCO would be chief guest on the occasion.
