PESHAWAR: Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud has launched a 20-day crackdown on unregistered vehicles plying the Grand Trunk Road.
During the operation, action would be taken against rickshaws, buses, and wagons. The drive aims to ban rickshaws plying between Pir Zakuri Bridge and Surrey Pul. The operation seeks to stop the plying of buses and wagons on BRT routes.
Action will be taken against traffic violations, underage drivers, and illegal vehicles.The operation aims to streamline the transport system, reduce traffic congestion, and ensure road safety. Authorities will take action against rickshaws operating outside their designated areas and those with forged permits or irregular registration numbers. Unlicensed rickshaws will be sealed during the drive.
Stringent measures will be taken against common traffic violations, including pressure horns, unauthorized lights, tinted windows, and improper number plates. Confiscated equipment will be publicly dismantled. Underage drivers will face arrest, and illegal rickshaws, wagons, and buses will be impounded.
Specialized enforcement teams, comprising the district administration, traffic police, regional transport authority, and law-enforcement agencies will be deployed for the operation.Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud will supervise the operation and has instructed authorities to enforce the measures. “We are committed to restoring order on GT Road and ensuring safe and smooth commutes for the citizens of Peshawar,” he said.“This operation will help us tackle the menace of illegal transportation and reduce traffic congestion,” he added.
