An important meeting about the crime and law & order situation in Karachi chaired by Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Saturday was told that snatching and theft of vehicles in the city have decreased significantly.

IGP Memon also reviewed the steps taken by his subordinates to implement the orders he had issued during the previous meeting, and he issued further instructions as well.

Officials said the Karachi police chief, the city’s zonal and district police chiefs, the CIA and finance heads, and other police officers attended the follow-up meeting.

The CIA DIG, and the DIGs of the South, East and West zones gave separate briefings on the current situation of crime and law & order in the city, and the coordinated and effective measures of the police in this regard.

The CIA chief said that due to extraordinary police measures, strategy and coordinated policing, incidents of snatching and theft of vehicles have dropped significantly this year when the statistics of the first four months are compared to that of last year’s corresponding period.

The IGP ordered that all supervisory officers not only ensure the registration of free FIRs at their respective police stations but also make it possible to take adequate steps to hear the problems and complaints of the common people so they can be resolved.

He said that if a criminal incident comes to notice in any area, the relevant SHO should ensure the arrest of the suspect involved by obtaining the CCTV cameras’ footage available at the crime scene.

He told all the DIGs and district SSPs to not only ascertain the motives, causes and factors behind the crimes through a thorough investigation but also take all possible steps to take preventive measures regarding the crimes committed by taking advantage of these pieces of information and the assessments.

The police chief also gave instructions that the AVLC be reconstituted and linked with the Sindh Smart Surveillance System. He directed the AVLC SSP to ensure full and systematic action against the elements involved in the sale and purchase of stolen and snatched vehicles, motorbike parts, etc.

The IGP said that his priority is to strengthen the operations, and especially the investigation department to make it successful and better in every respect. He said that the improvement of the investigation department would expand the crime data bank, providing experience and expertise in investigations.

A simple ceremony was organised at the Central Police Office for the distribution of rewards and certificates. IGP Memon praised the West, Korangi and Central SSPs, the Gulshan-e-Maymar, Zaman Town and Bilal Colony SHOs, their teams and the Shaheen Force for taking bold steps against crime, and gave them C-1 certificates.

“The purpose of today’s event is to appreciate your excellent performance against crime, and to further strengthen your resolve. I’m confident that you’ll continue your performance, and further strengthen your grip on crime and criminal elements through your actions.”

The West SSP, the Gulshan-e-Maymar SHO, his team and Shaheen Force personnel had foiled a house robbery and rescued the women who were being kept as hostages inside.
