Three suspects who robbed citizens outside banks arrested

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Saturday busted a gang of robbers involved in robbing people who withdraw cash from banks.

Officials said that acting on a tip-off, SIU personnel arrested three men, identified as Naveed Ahmad, Adnan and Zulfiqar Ali, at the Power House Chowrangi in New Karachi. Three pistols of 30 bore with rounds were said to have been found on the suspects.

In the initial interrogation, the suspects along with their other associates revealed several incidents of robbery outside banks in the districts of South, Central, East, City, Malir, Korangi and West, and in the areas of Akhtar Colony, Darakhshan, Jamshed Quarters, Tower, Bakra Perri, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Abul Hasan Isphahani Road, Sohrab Goth, SITE Area, Quaidabad, Malir, Shah Latif Town, Shah Faisal Colony and Orangi Town.

One of the accomplices of the suspects used to identify people coming out of banks with a large amount of money to their colleagues outside, who would then rob them at gunpoint.

Naveed had been arrested along with his accomplice Farhan by the SIU in 2021 in a Rs30 million prize bond robbery. The two had looted prize bonds worth Rs30 million from a motorbiker on Jamshed Road. They were later arrested by the SIU and prize bonds worth Rs27.1 million were also recovered.

Naveed, along with his accomplice Fazal Khaliq, had robbed a man who had left a bank on Abul Hasan Isphahani Road in January 2024.

At the same time, they had an encounter with an SIU team and Fazal Khaliq was injured in the exchange of fire. Both fell off the motorcycle. The SIU team had arrested Fazal Dad in an injured condition while Naveed had snatched the motorcycle from online food company rider and fled.

Cases have been registered against the accused under the Sindh Arms Act at the SIU police station over the recovery of illegal weapons. The police stations are being informed about the arrests and disclosures of the accused. The accused are being interrogated and more revelations are expected.
