ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Corruption Circle (ACC) of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an operation against criminals involved in illegal trade of human organs in Islamabad and arrested the ringleader, a spokesman of the FIA said.
The ACC launched an operation against the human organ traders after receiving complaints, traced dozens of suspects in private surgical clinics and arrested their alleged ringleader identified as Mustaqeem from an illegal clinic in the outskirts of Islamabad.
According to sources connected with the investigation, a young man was killed during liver transplantation when the donor’s blood did not match that of the deceased.
The father of the deceased lodged a complaint. During the investigation, the accused disclosed that they had received rupees three million from the patient. “They use uneducated male nurses for the sensitive surgery in illegal operation theatres,” investigation officials said.
The “main gang comprised criminals who trap poor youngsters to sell their kidneys for transplantation for millions of rupees, especially foreigners who paid in dollars,” sources engaged with the investigation said.
The middlemen and facilitators played a vital role in the human organ trade, encouraging the poor to sell their organs.
