Zardari okays appointment of Justice Ishtiaq as acting PHC CJ
The President is pleased to appoint Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim as acting chief justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) till his confirmation as the regular chief justice by the parliamentary committee.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, “In exercise of the powers conferred under Article 196 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Senior Puisne judge of Peshawar High Court, Peshawar, as Acting Chief Justice of the said Court with effect from the date he makes oath of his office, till his confirmation as regular Chief Justice by the Parliamentary Committee.”
The president also approved the appointment of six additional judges of the Sindh High Court to be judges of the SHC with effect from the date they take oath of their offices.
The Ministry of Law and Justice also issued a notification about appointment of the SHC judges including Justice Amjad Ali Bohio, Justice Ms. Sana Akram Minhas, Justice Jawad Akbar Sarwana, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, Justice Mohammad Abdur Rahman and Justice Arbab Ali Hakro.
Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim will take oath of his office on April 15. The senior puisne judge, Justice Ejaz Anwar, will administer oath to the acting chief justice. The incumbent PHC chief justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan is going to retire on April 14.
