LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) leader and former senator Dr. Asif Kirmani has termed the Punjab government’s Ramazan package a temporary relief.

Talking to the scribe, he questioned what would happen to the poor and middle-class people after the month of Ramazan.

“If people get clear relief in inflation, electricity, and gas bills, they will buy their dal roti,” he commented.

“The Quaid-e-Azam had made Pakistan for the poor and middle class. This elite system has increased inflation, poverty, and unemployment, and the current system is a slave to the elite,” he expressed. Kirmani suggested that there was a need to change the system, which should be poor and middle-class-friendly. He said that the process of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer would have to be stopped.

He maintained that the attitudes of the political parties and the results of the recent elections have created a space for a new political party because the educated young middle class has rejected traditional politics and politicians in elections.

Talking about the recent episode of Aitchison College, Dr. Asif Kirmani said the behavior meted out to the principal was reprehensible.

“Aitchison College is a world-class educational institution, and its reputation has been ruined with this incident,” he said, adding that the Punjab governor is a gentleman who seems to have been rendered helpless.

“The powerful and few ladders of the system want to make the institution their wand and pocket watch. The global image of the college has been affected by this incident,” he said, demanding that the governor withdraw the new policy.
