ECP issues PTI-P intra-party election certificate

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has also submitted its documents about its intra-party elections to the Election Commission for issuance of the certificate

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday issued a certificate of intra-party election to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P) with Mahmood Khan elected as chairman and Malik Afzal Din Khan as vice chairman.

A notification posted on the Election Commission’s website says, “In pursuance of Sections 208 & 209 (3) of the Elections Act, 2017 read with sub-rule (2) of Rule 158 of the Election Rules, 2017, the Election Commission of Pakistan is pleased to publish for public information, the certificate containing the information with regard to conduct of intra-party bye elections, the detail of election result along with copy of notification showing the names, designations and addresses of the party’s elected office bearers, in respect of ‘Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians…”

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has also submitted its documents about its intra-party elections to the Election Commission for issuance of the certificate. However, the forum reportedly has not so far taken it up for consideration. It is expected to be considered during the current week or early next week.

Separately, the Election Commission has issued a notification for correction in a notification of even number dated February 22, 2024, regarding the seats reserved for non-Muslims in the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan. Amendment is in Serial No1 against the column No 3 the father name of Sanjay Kumar shall be read as ‘Shaloo Mal instead of ‘Shah Mal’.

In another notification, the Election Commission has declared Musarrat Jabeen, returned candidate on a reserved seat for women in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, which fell vacant in terms of Article 223(4) of the Constitution after declaration of Sofia Saeed Shah as returned candidate against seat reserved for women in the National Assembly from Sindh.

The notification has been issued in pursuance of the provision of Clause (6) of Article 224 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan read with Section 104 of the Elections Act, 2017.
