Mansehra streets to have solar lighting system

MANSEHRA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is going to install a solar-streets lighting system in the city and its suburbs at a cost of Rs100 million.

“We have evolved a comprehensive strategy to address civic problems faced by the people in the city and its suburbs and solar lighting system will shortly be installed,” Kamal Saleem Swati, the deputy president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said at a meeting attended by the chairmen of the village and neighbourhood councils here on Tuesday.

He said the Tehsil Municipal Administration would supply potable water through tankers in areas facing scarcity in the month of Ramazan.“We are going to replace rusted and broken water supply lines in the city and its suburbs as Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati has approved funds for it and other schemes,” Kamal said.

He said the KP government would address the core issues faced by representatives of Local Governments in the Hazara and the rest of the province.Speaking on the occasion the general secretary of chairmen Ittehad Basharat Ali Swati apprised Swati of the issues faced by the village and neighbourhood councils’ chairmen.

“Two years have passed since the installation of local governments in the province but we are still without a development and salary budget,” Swati said.He lamented that chairmen of village and neighbourhood councils were still without powers conferred on them by the Local Government Act (Amended) 2013.

The chairmen of village and neighbourhood councils including Akmal Khan, Amir Aziz, Murad Khan, Mohammad Irshad, Arif Khan, Waqas Shah, Saad Shah, Mir Hassan and Khurram Khan spoke on the occasion as well.
