QUETTA: The roof of a house in Kharan fell due to heavy rain which claimed the lives of three children while their father was injured. Besides, the rain damaged seven houses in Quetta, announced Deputy Commissioner Shirani.

The supplies needed by the victims, including food, tents and other goods have been sent to Gwadar. He said a survey of affected houses could not be started due to continuous rain and standing water.

According to Deputy Commissioner Shirani, due to continuous rain for the past two days, the National Highway Zhob to Dera Ismail Khan Road is completely closed to all types of traffic due to landslides in the Dana Sar area of Shirani. Talking to the media, Director General PDMA Jehangir Khan said the government agencies are engaged in relief and rehabilitation works to deal with the situation caused by the recent rains in Balochistan. He said the process to drain out accumulated water in Gwadar is underway. The rescue and relief operation is going on in collaboration with PDMA, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, district administration and other institutions. He said that things are grave in Gwadar due to the record 187mm of rain in two days. Director General PDMA said people were moved to safer places where water had entered houses. He said that letters had been issued once again to the districts to deal with any possible situation. “We are in constant contact with the deputy commissioners across Balochistan,” said DG PDMA Jahanzeb Khan, adding Gwadar and Kech are the most affected among the 22 districts of Balochistan. On the other hand, Gawadar Development Authority’s rain emergency response teams have been active in different areas to deal with the situation caused by rain in the city for the last four days. PDMA Balochistan has shifted resources to Gwadar to deal with urban flood emergencies in Gwadar district for rain and flood situations in Gwadar city (Jiwani, Surbandar, Ormara) and surrounding areas.
