ECP notifies results of 8 Peshawar seats
These results were stopped when the rest of the winners were notified in an earlier notification a couple of days back
PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has notified names of the winners of eight provincial assembly constituencies in Peshawar where runners-up had challenged the results and staged protests.
As per the official result, Jalal Khan of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN ) was notified as winner from PK-79, independent Malik Tariq Awan from PK-82, Kiramatullah Chagharmati of Pakistan People's Party from PK-72, Ijaz Khan of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam –Fazl (JUIF) from PK 74, Zahir Khan of PMLN from PK- 78, Arbab Usman of Awami National Party from PK-75, Arbab Waseem of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTIP) from PK-73 and Arbab Zarak of PPP was declared winner from PK-80.
The PTI-backed independent candidates who were runners-up in these constituencies had approached the ECP and Peshawar High Court alleging that the results in constituencies were false.
Those who had challenged the results in the provincial capital included PTI-backed candidate Taimur Saleem Jhagra from PK-79, Kamran Bangash (PK-82), Mahmood Jan (PK-72), Arbab Jehandad (PK-74), Asim Khan (PK-78), Ali Zaman Advocate (PK-73) and Malik Shahab from (PK-75). These candidates and their supporters had blocked the motorway and different routes of the provincial capital for days to protest the results.
The ECP on Friday also notified independent candidate Iqbal Afridi as the winner from NA-27 Khyber, another independent Shahid Ahmad from NA-38 Karak, and Misbahuddin of JUIF from NA-40 Waziristan.
Besides, Akram Khan Durrani of JUIF was notified as the winner from PK-102 Bannu, Adnan Khan of JUIF from PK-101 Bannu, and Muhammad Riaz of JUIF from PK-95 Kurram.
