ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party has raised reservations regarding reports of Imran Khan’s letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
PPP Vice President Senator Sherry Rehman said on Friday it seemed that the PTI leadership was yet to learn from past mistakes. “We strongly condemn his attempt to sabotage a future IMF program. She questioned if it was not a violation of laws and ethical standards to invite the IMF to intervene in Pakistan’s internal matters, especially considering that the IMF had no mandate to interfere in the general elections of a country. “He had previously left the country on the brink of default, and the PDM government faced challenges in stabilizing the economy. Imran Khan appears to be once again jeopardizing the economy.”
Meanwhile, former Senate chairman Senator Raza Rabbani has said the purported letter to be written by the PTI to the IMF was a direct invitation to foreign intervention in Pakistan’s internal affairs, hence it was condemnable. He said it appeared to be an agenda point to try to make Pakistan default, when not in power. No international monetary agency or foreign governments have the right to interfere in the internal affairs of Pakistan which is not a lackey state but a sovereign country.
