Death toll in hand grenade explosion rises to four
Another minor boy who was wounded in a hand grenade explosion in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on Thursday. Following his death, the number of fatalities in the incident has risen to four.
The seven-year-old boy, named Hasnain, was injured in the hand grenade explosion in Haji Lemo Goth within the remits of the Mobina Town police station on Wednesday. He died during treatment at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The explosion occurred after 17-year-old Farooq Rahman Mirani, son of a suspended police sub-inspector, accidentally triggered a hand grenade to explode. As a result, he died on the spot, while five others were wounded.
Among the wounded persons, 14-year-old Nasreen and 18-month-old Rehan died during treatment at a private hospital on the same day, while Hasnain died on Thursday. Two others, including five-year-old Sher Zaman and four-year-old Ayan, are still under treatment. No case had registered till the filing of this story, while an investigation was underway.
After the incident on Wednesday, the police said they searched Rahman Mirani’s house but found nothing. Police also detained half dozen suspects, including the suspect’s father and brothers. The police are still investigating why the teenage boy was carrying the hand grenade.
