There were more than 60 stalls at the market displaying various facets of the German culture. There were stalls from the German Culture Centre and Goethe-Institut. Some stalls has also been arranged by the culture ministries of Sindh and Balochistan.

There were also stalls offering German food.

Some prominent stalls included two stalls from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working for children with Down syndrome and several other stalls of NGOs working for women in the country.

Speaking to the media at the German Winter Market, German Consul General Dr Rudiger Lotz said such markets were established in German cities such as Munich and Cologne and they wanted to replicate it.

The festival, he said, brought food, handicraft, music and arts together. He added that the consulate was glad that people came and enjoyed the festival.

He shared that such a festival used to be held by the consulate in the past but was disrupted due to COVID-19. “We decided to restart the tradition again,” he said, adding that it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying.

A large number of people visited different stalls and enjoyed German delicacies. One of the visitors, Burraq, said she was glad she came to the festival and got a chance to see German culture.

There were two lucky draws at the festival. The visitors were to pay Rs1,000 to participate in the lucky draws and the amount generated from the lucky draws would go to any charitable hospital in Karachi.
