Motorway IG tells police to treat passengers courteously
National Highways and Motorway Police Inspector General (IG) Salman Chaudhry paid a visit to the South Zone after taking charge.
Additional IG Munir Ahmed Sheikh, DIG Mohammad Saleem and sector commanders welcomed him. Later, he was given a briefing on administrative matters. Additional IG Sheikh explained measures taken to control axle load to ensure that the highways were not damaged.
DIG Salim told the meeting that due to carelessness of drivers of buses and oil tankers, many accidents took place. The motorway IG said all the officers should play their full role for the good name of the institution. He said better coordination between officers and employees was needed.
He asked the officers to delegate authority to lower levels so that issues could be resolved as soon as possible. Steps should be taken to make the journey of road users safer, he added. He said the motorway police should treat passengers courteously and ensure the safety of their lives and property. He reminded the officers that ‘honesty, courtesy and help’ was the motto of the motorway police, which every officer should adhere to. After the meeting, IG Chaudhry also participated in a seminar on road safety at a private hotel.
