Newborn body fished out from canal

LAHORE:The body of a newborn girl was fished out from the canal in the Sundar area on Tuesday. The decomposed body appeared to be two to three days old. Some passersby spotted the body floating in the canal and informed the police. It was suspected that an unidentified woman had thrown the body of her illegitimate child into the canal. The body was shifted to the morgue.

Kidnapper arrested; boy recovered

Police arrested a kidnapper and recovered a 10-year-old boy who was kidnapped from the limits of Lytton Road police a few days ago. The suspect Waseem had kidnapped the victim Muhammad Ibrahim and demanded a ransom of Rs6 lakh from the heirs. The accused had kept the boy in the limits of Mughalpura area.

The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 879 road traffic accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

In these accidents, nine people died, whereas 923 were injured. Out of these, 395 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 528 victims with minor injuries were treated on the spot by Rescue medical teams.

Man found dead

A 30-year-old man was found dead in the limits of Batapur police on Tuesday. Some locals spotted the body in a field and informed the police. The man, yet to be identified, was a drug addict who might have died of cold weather, police said. The body was shifted to the morgue.

Addict injures himself

An addict inflicted several cuts on his body with a blade in a housing society near Ferozepur Road on Tuesday. On being informed, the rescuers rushed to the spot and found that the man, yet to be identified, had hurt himself with a blade. The injured was treated on the spot.
