In pursuance of its drive against those not paying their taxes in Karachi, the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) sealed two branches of a fitness and gym business.
An SRB press release issued on Tuesday said that two business premises of the Shadow Fitness Gym were sealed by SRB officers. One of the branches is located in Block-A of the Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society, and the other on Allama Shabbir Ahmed Usmani Road in Block-4 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The punitive action was taken by the SRB because of the non-payment of sales tax and the non-filing of the monthly sales tax returns, resulting in huge loss of sales tax revenues.
Earlier, the SRB had directed the gym to complete their registration with the revenue board, deposit their due payments of monthly sales tax and also e-file their monthly sales tax returns.
“However, they failed to do so despite availing sufficient time for compliance in this regard. Finding non-compliance on the part of the said gym, the officers of the SRB have taken the action of sealing their aforesaid business premises,” said the SRB statement released to the media.
The statement also said that the SRB would continue taking similar actions against gyms if they fail to complete their registration with the board, deposit the due amounts of sales tax or e-file their monthly sales tax returns, or if they make any attempt to show lower sales.
