UHS releases provisional merit list of PMCs

LAHORE:The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has released the provisional merit list for admissions in private medical and dental colleges in Punjab.

The list is based on the merit ranking of all applicants. A total of 10,397 candidates applied for 49 private medical and dental colleges in the province, including 6,685 females and 3,712 males. UHS has published the provisional list for all candidates on its website.

According to the list, the minimum merit for MBBS admissions is expected to be 80.4 percent, and for BDS, 78.2 percent. Candidates can submit their objections regarding the merit list at http://uhs.edu.pk/pml123.

According to the spokesperson for UHS, objections can be submitted until 12am today (Tuesday). There are 4,000 MBBS seats in 32 private medical colleges in Punjab, while there are 1,025 BDS seats in 17 private dental colleges. According to the Punjab government's decision, centralised admissions are being conducted in private medical and dental colleges this year.

PU marks World Fisheries Day

Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has said that awareness is needed to benefit the market by highlighting the importance of white meat, for which industry and academia should work together.

He was addressing a special event organised by PU Institute of Zoology on the occasion of World Fisheries Day. On this occasion, Director General Fisheries Department Punjab Dr Sikandar Hayat, Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) CEO Dr Abid Mehmood, Thai Union Group CEO Nabeel Akhtar Chaudhry, Dean Faculty of Business, Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry, Director Institute of Zoology Prof Dr Nabila Ruhi, Prof Dr Noor Khan, faculty members and students were present.

In his address, Dr Khalid Mahmood said that such research work was being promoted which would benefit the country and the nation. He advised the students to learn from the internship and play a role in the practical field. He appreciated the role of the Institute of Zoology in improving the ranking of PU. He said that all possible support would be provided for the establishment of the fisheries department in PU. Dr Abid Mahmood said that the environment was favourable for fish breeding in Pakistan.

USAID team visit UVAS

A delegation led by Deputy Director USAID/Pakistan's Office of Climate & Sustainable Growth Keith Metzner along with Economics Growth Specialist Kamran Niazi and Dr Mubasshra visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Monday.

The delegation called on Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmed and held a meeting on Challenges and Opportunities in Reducing Methane Emissions in Pakistan Livestock and Dairy Sector in city campus.

Speaking on occasion, Prof Dr Nasim emphasised on the importance of climate change in South Asia and its impact on the livestock production sustainability. He discussed the potential collaborative and funding opportunities from different agencies to curb methane production from different livestock production systems. At the end, it was mutually agreed for future collaboration on climate change. Earlier, Chairman Department of Animal Nutrition Dr Naveed ul Haq gave a detailed presentation on UVAS work on climate change.
