Electoral process: Awareness session arranged for women

PESHAWAR: An awareness session was held at the Provincial Election Commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa office on Thursday on the participation of minority women as voters and candidates in the general elections.

Director Elections Asif Ali Yasin, Deputy Director Media Coordination Sohail Ahmed, Deputy Director Monitoring and Training Muhammad Imran, Assistant Director Gender and Social Inclusion Arooba Ali, and Aliza Mahfouz participated in the session of organised by Blue Veins, a non-governmental organization.

Women belonging to the minority community participated in the session.Alize Mahfouz of Blue Veins welcomed the Election Commission team and informed the participants about the objectives of the session.

Asif Ali Yasin talked about election process, importance of vote, candidate eligibility and procedure for submission of documents, constitutional and legal framework and measures to be taken for inclusive and credible elections including minority community and deprived classes.

The participants raised questions which were answered.Apart from this, several women representatives shared their experiences and offered some suggestions to increase the turnout in the next general election.
