Reacting to the victory of Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad and other Pakistan Peoples Party candidates in the local government by-elections in Sindh, Karachi Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) President Saeed Ghani said that after securing a landslide victory in the by-elections in Karachi and the rest of Sindh, the PPP had proven its status as the most popular political party of the country.

In a statement issued late on Sunday night, he said that all the candidates of the party, including Wahab and Murad, had won the local government by-polls in the province. He said the PPP’s latest victory in the local government by-elections had broken all its past record.

He said the people of Karachi had voted in favour of the PPP’s candidates in the latest by-polls far in greater numbers than the votes polled by the party in the last local government elections in the city earlier in the year.

“The Jamaat-e-Islami whose claim is that it is the most popular political party in Karachi should also acknowledge the mass popularity of the PPP in the city,” he said. Ghani predicted that the PPP would emerge as the single largest political party in the country after the upcoming general elections on February 8.
