ICC mourns umpire Ian Robinson demise
DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed its sadness at the passing of former Zimbabwe umpire and ICC Regional Umpires’ Performance manager Ian Robinson at the age of 69, in Harare on Sunday, and offered its deepest condolences to the Robinson family.
In a statement Adrian Griffith, ICC’s Senior Manager Umpires and Referee said, “Ian’s passing is very sad news. He was not only a fine umpire, but also a well-regarded administrator of the game. He spent three decades serving the sport as an umpire at domestic and international levels, and he was a key member in the ICC’s efforts to train and develop world class umpires in the African region.
In a career spanning across three decades, Robinson officiated in 28 Tests, 90 ODIs and three World Cups — 1992, 1996 and 1999. He retired from international umpiring in 2008 to focus on his role as the ICC’s Regional Umpires’ Performance Manager for Africa.
