PHF reschedules International Women Handball
KARACHI: Pakistan Handball Federation (PHF) has revised the schedule of the International Women Handball Championship and it will now be held from March 27 to 30 at the Agriculture University in Faisalabad.
The event was scheduled to be held from March 12 to 18.
Besides hosts Pakistan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan will be taking part in the four-day competitions.
A top official of PHF said that Bangladesh were also expected to feature in the competitions. “We are waiting for Bangladesh to confirm their entry,” PHF president Mohammad Sahfiq told ‘The News’ on Tuesday.
He said he had requested the government to facilitate the PHF for holding the competitions. “The event will help Pakistan’s women handball and I request the government and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to support the federation. The government not only should facilitate us in the visa process for foreign teams but it should also release us the special grant for the purpose,” Shafiq said.
“We didn’t get a single penny of our special grant in 2015,” said Shafiq, also secretary of Asian Handball Federation (AHF).
He said slight changes would be made to the team that won bronze medal at the recent South Asian Games in India, beating Nepal in the third-place play-off. “We are also seeking some sponsors and hopefully the corporate sector will help us,” he said.
