Our LNG blunder
By our correspondents
February 22, 2016
The haste with which the $15 billion LNG contract with Qatar has been executed by the government is puzzling. Why was the contract not discussed threadbare in parliament? The detailed analysis of the contract by Dr Mubashir Hasan in his well-written article, ‘The thirteen billion dollar blunder’ (February 19) only confirms our worst fear that all is not well in this deal.
Why a comparative analysis of the expected offer of Iran, after lifting of sanctions, was not made needs some explanation, in addition to the disastrous impact of the deal. This was elaborately explained by the writer (and so far not refuted by the government). Why has a standard exit clause been omitted form the agreement?
