More than 525,000 mac and cheese packs recalled across US

More than 525,000 packages of macaroni and cheese sold across the United States have been recalled over concerns about an undeclared allergen, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA said Texas-based BEF Foods, Inc. voluntarily recalled 58,405 cases of its “Park St. Deli Macaroni & Cheese” product.

The recall affects 525,645 individual packages distributed in stores nationwide.

Federal health officials classified the recall as a “Class II” risk on June 10.

“Class II recall: a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” the FDA said.

The affected product was recalled due to undeclared soy lecithin, which can trigger allergic reactions in some consumers.

According to the FDA, the recalled product is sold as “Park St. Deli Macaroni & Cheese” in 20-ounce containers.

Each case contains nine packages. The product comes packaged in a plastic tub inside a paperboard sleeve.

No illnesses linked to the recall have been reported so far.

Consumers with soy allergies are being urged not to consume the product and should either dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
