Kate Middleton faces attack by AI on social media
Probe begins, Grok edited photos of many women, including Kate Middleton, surfaced on X
Recently, there has been a spike in sexualized images created by Grok, an AI tool. Now, Kate Middleton has become a target of it.
She is the latest among several women who were shocked by the AI chatbot on X, formerly known as Twitter, generating their undressed photos without consent, The Mirror reports.
These photos show them wearing swimsuits, and Grok edits them to depict them in questionable positions.
In the wake of this privacy invasion, Ofcom, the UK regulatory authority, contacted xAI, the company behind the chatbot.
“Tackling illegal online harm and protecting children remain urgent priorities for Ofcom. We are aware of serious concerns raised about a feature on Grok on X that produces undressed images of people and sexualised images of children," a spokesperson from the regulator says.
“We have made urgent contact with X and xAI to understand what steps they have taken to comply with their legal duties to protect users in the UK."
“Based on their response, we will undertake a swift assessment to determine whether there are potential compliance issues that warrant investigation," the statement concludes.
It is worth noting that Kate and Prince William previously sued and won a case against a French magazine over a "grossly intrusive article and long-lens paparazzi photographs.
