Meghan Markle’s ‘The Wedding Date’ set ‘gets out of hand’
Meghan Markle ends up in a battle of wits with Netflix and ends up seeing a hard line in the sand after becoming micromanager
There appears to have been a battle of sorts between Meghan Markle and her boss Netflix, because celebrity reporter Rob Shuter just came forward with another revelation about the royals’ future in Hollywood as a director.
For those unversed, the Duchess’ experience as a producer is widespread through her own company Archewell Productions. She even has a number of shows under her belt like With Love, Meghan where she is listed as the Executive Producer and creator. Similarly, the 2022 Harry & Meghan docuseries also lists her company, alongside others.
This is also the case with Live to Lead, Heart of Invictus, Polo, Masaka Kids: A Rhythm Within and Archetypes Podcast.
However, when it comes to directing her upcoming rom-com The Wedding Date, she is said have been turned down flat, by Netflix, “no meetings, no maybes, no second chances.”
An industry insider also came forward to explain their reasons for issuing such a hard pass and said, “they are fine with Meghan as a producer, but giving her the director’s chair? That was never going to happen. Netflix is not interested.”
As for Meghan’s attempts the reporter says, “Meghan didn’t just float the idea — she pushed. Hard.”
Even a source chimed in and admitted that from the moment she got on set “she was trying to micromanage everything. Casting choices, camera angles. It got out of hand fast.”
That was what prompted Netflix to step forward its being said. “They basically said, ‘Nope. Absolutely not’. Someone had to draw the line.”
As it stands, “their new deal is for much less money. Producing is allowed. Directing is off-limits. The rules are very clear now,” a separate source said before another chimed in to admit, “She may have the title, but Netflix still calls the shots.”
What is pertinent to mention though is that, despite the hiccup “Yes, Meghan and Harry are still attached as producers through Archewell, and the rom-com is the first in a planned six-book adaptation deal. But sources say the power dynamic has shifted dramatically,” according to the same reporter.
