Duchess Sophie steps in for King Charles during historic visit
Duchess Sophie joined the people of Alderney to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of their Homecoming on behalf of King Charles.
During the visit the Duchess of Edinburgh also delivered a message on behalf of King Charles, highlighting the resilience and dedication of the islanders.
The official Instagram handle of the royal family posted a video clip offering glimpse into Sophie's visit. The caption detailed, "The Duchess of Edinburgh has joined the people of Alderney to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of their Homecoming."
It further revealed, "In 1945 islanders returned home having been evacuated to mainland Britain ahead of the German Occupation in 1940."
Additionally, the caption also highlighted the message Sophie delivered on behalf of King that read: "Homecoming Day reminds us of the sacrifices made by those Islanders and the challenges they overcame when they returned to rebuild their community and their homes. It is thanks to their valiant efforts to restore the island that all those who now reside in Alderney continue to enjoy its peaceful way of life."
Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, who is one of the hardest-working Royal members, is the sister-in-law of King Charles. She is wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, the youngest brother of the monarch.
