In an unusual incident a skydiver’s parachute wrapped around a plane wing ,leaving the skydiver hanging mid-air in Australia.

The news broke after the Australian Transport Safety Bureau ATSB’s investigation team finally released footages from the moments a skydiver’s parachute wrapped around a plane wing on September 2025, in Far North Queensland.

The chilling video footage released by Australian media documented a frightening mid-air disaster over North Queensland.

The incident happened when a skydiver was regularly jumping off the plane for a thrilling experience and all of a sudden, the diver’s reserve chute opened early, ripping him off the aircraft thousands of feet over Tully Airport in the Far North, Queensland.

The extraordinary video shows a very skilled skydiver was left dangling by ropes from the tail of a plane at 15,000ft.

ATSB final report revealed details that the pilot had to make significant control inputs to maintain level flight after the skydiver’s reserve parachute became snagged on the tail of their Cessna Caravan during a jump run over Tully Airport.

Once the plane reached the desired altitude, the pilot slowed the aircraft to 85 kt, extended 10° of flap and signalled the jump to begin.

The parachutist was climbing out of the roller door when the handle for their reserve parachute snagged on the wing flap, deploying the chute inadvertently.

This dragged the parachutist suddenly backwards, and his legs struck the aircraft’s left horizontal stabilizer, substantially damaging it.

The parachute then wrapped around the stabilizer, suspending the parachutist below the aircraft.

“The pilot recalled feeling the aircraft suddenly pitch up, and observed the airspeed rapidly decreasing,” ATSB Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell explained.

The pilot felt the controls vibrating, and reported significant forward pressure and right aileron input were required to maintain straight and level flight.

Hanging in the air, above Queensland, the skydiver rescued himself to escape the scene.

He managed to cut himself loose, deploy his main parachute and land safely, suffering only minor injuries.

The plane was carrying 17 parachutists on board, planning to complete a 16-way formation jump filmed by a parachuting camera operator.

The authorities reported that the prompt action of the skydiver saved his life.

The quick-thinking parachuter used a hook knife to cut 11 lines from the reserve parachute before it tore free from the plane and while free-falling back down to earth, the man was able to release his main parachute.
