Leonardo DiCaprio reflects on staying grounded in the spotlight
DiCaprio was named TIME’s 2025 Entertainer of the Year on December 8
Leonardo DiCaprio is offering a rare look at how he manages life under constant scrutiny.
Named TIME’s 2025 Entertainer of the Year on December 8, the 51-year-old actor discussed the approach he’s developed after spending his entire adult life in the public eye.
“It’s been a balance I’ve been managing my whole adult life,” he noted, adding that he still doesn’t consider himself an expert.
He explained that his rule is to appear publicly only when there’s a real purpose. “Only get out there and do something when you have something to say, or you have something to show for it. Otherwise, just disappear as much as you possibly can.”
DiCaprio recalled the major fame after the 1997 Titanic, and how the global fixation was overwhelming despite finding the fame exciting.
“I was like, okay, how do I have a long career? … The best way is to get out of people’s face.”
The actor remains private about his personal life, including his relationship with model Vittoria Ceretti, whom he’s been linked to for more than two years.
Though he has never spoken publicly about her, Ceretti quietly supported him at the September premiere of One Battle After Another in Los Angeles.
